Surrey Freemason Colin Bryson, Treasurer of Cranleigh Lodge No. 3445, has been the driving force behind a donation of £1,085 to St Mark’s Food Bank in Godalming from members of his Lodge and Chapter
Colin is a Past Master of Cranleigh Lodge and the Charity Steward of Libera Fidelis Chapter No. 2101 that meets in his home town of Godalming. He was inspired by witnessing the hard work and dedication of staff in the food bank in Godalming.
He remarked: 'As a result of furloughing or otherwise losing their income, people are having to rely more and more on local food banks to sustain their families.'
Moved by what he had seen on 25th April 2020 Colin wrote to the members of Cranleigh Lodge and Lebera Fidelis Chapter. Whilst he was aware that, as Treasurer of the former and Charity Steward of the latter, he could make nominal payments without seeking the units’ approvals his email to members stressed that: 'It would be worth more, not just in monetary terms, if the members helped out.' The result was offers of help and donations of £934 from his Lodge and £150 from his Chapter.
St Mark’s Food Bank operates in-line the Government’s guidance on Covid-19 with reduced hours of 10am to 2pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It operates with minimal personnel who avoid contact with clients.
Karen Milton, the Godalming Centre Co-ordinator and St Mark’s Foodbank Manager said: 'This is enormously generous and it is so appreciated by us all. Donations like this go towards making our work and the lives of the people we help so much easier. Thank you.'
