Wednesday, 20 July 2022

Saturday 26th June 2022 saw 150 freemasons, their wives, partners and friends gather at the County Showground, Stafford for a Midsummer Ball

Also present was the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire and President of Staffordshire Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families Association Mr Ian Dudson CBE, the Chairman of Staffordshire Sailors and Airmen Families Association Mr Colin Critchlow, a retired major, Lieutenant Colonel Toby Gaddum representing 22 Signals, Stafford.

The highlight of the event was when John Lockley, the Provincial Grand Master of Staffordshire, invited John Skellern the Charity Steward for Staffordshire to make an announcement. John Skellern then announced that £10,000 has been donated by Staffordshire Freemasons via the Masonic Charity Foundation to the Sailors and Airmen Families Association, with a further £500 from The Ancient and Accepted Rite (Staffordshire and Shropshire). John Skellern said ‘Staffordshire were the first Freemasons  to sign the Armed Forces covenant in September 2021, pledging to support our Armed Forces, and it is a pleasure to support such a worthwhile cause'.

The representatives of the Sailors and Airmen Families Association were clearly delighted and Colin Critchlow thanked everyone for the generous donation.

The Sailors and Airmen Families Association is a tri-service charity that supports members of the Armed Forces and their families through whatever difficulties they are facing for as long as it takes to get those persons' life back to where they want it to be.

During the evening a further £3,375 was raised which will go into the fund for the Staffordshire Freemasons 2024 Charity Festival, that money will be added to the substantial grand total of charity donations over a number of years and be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation.
