Northumberland Freemasons donate £1500 to Excelsior Academy to hold an end of year prom

Northumberland Freemasons have again played Fairy Godmother, in the community, with a £1500 donation to Excelsior Academy, located in the West End of Newcastle, which assisted them in holding their end of year Prom for Year 11, 12 and 13 students

When Jonathan Miller, the schools’ Duke of Edinburgh Leader and Curriculum Support Worker for Performing Arts and Music, was given the green light to hold the celebration, he realised he had an uphill struggle as, due to Government Covid restrictions over the past year, the students had been unable to hold any fundraising activities to support the event.

Northumberland Freemasons, through the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund, stepped in and agreed to take up the short fall of £1500, which funded the hire of the DJ, tables and chairs, photo booth, food and catering staff and lighting for the marquee.

Stuart Cairns, the Secretary for the Trustees of the Richard Henry Holmes Benevolent Fund, said: 'We were delighted to be able to give our help and support for an event which will be a fitting end to a very difficult year for the Students at Excelsior Academy and which will provide a lifelong memory to many of them.

'The inability to organise any fundraising activities had meant that only 50% of the costs had been covered and the Trustees were only too pleased that we were able to ensure that the School Prom would go ahead and send our best wishes for an enjoyable & successful event.'
