Paying tribute to heroes

The 14th National Service Day at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire, was organised by Gerald Rose, chairman of the National Service Veterans Foundation and a Past Master of Staffordshire’s Sutton Pilgrims Lodge, No. 7780.

Alongside the Standards paraded by representatives of the armed forces were those of the Provinces of Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Ron Eamonson, a trustee of the National Service Foundation, laid a wreath on behalf of all Freemasons who had made the supreme sacrifice, and read a poem entitled Heroes, in tribute to the Merchant Navy.

A donation by the Warwickshire Masonic Charitable Association had been made earlier in the year in support of the National Service Veterans Foundation, as has been the case for several years.
