Lincolnshire Freemason and keen motorcyclist Karl Fidoe is doing his bit to support the NHS by becoming a member of the county’s Emergency Blood Bikers Scheme

The member of Lindum Lodge in Lincolnshire has completed several weekends duty with the bikers, and in May is rostered for a four-day shift.

Karl said: 'I have always been a keen motorcyclist, and in the past few years have completed the ROSPA Advanced rider scheme, with the thoughts of helping and riding for the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Scheme.

'The Blood Bikers have been supported with Lodge charity funding, and at the moment the Scheme is having some great press helping out the NHS with emergency travelling around the county and further afield,' added Karl, who has been a Lindum member since 1996.

Blood bikes have been running in some parts of the UK since the late 1960s, providing a completely free out-of-hours courier service transporting essential medical items such as blood, pathology and microbiology specimens, medical notes, pharmaceutical products and donor breast milk between hospitals and healthcare facilities. Nationally the volunteer riders complete almost 100,000 individual jobs every year.
