A channel to channel trek by Devonshire Freemasons has gotten underway to raise vital funds for charity
For reasons not quite rationalised, Tom Archer of the Northcote Masonic Lodge, Tony Clapham of the Masonic Lodge of Obedience and Davie Lodge are walking across Devon, from the tidal reaches of the Taw, to the tidal reaches of the Exe.
This is quite an astounding undertaking when you consider that their joint age is 160 years!
Several years ago they walked from the most southerly point of the County to the most northerly, but were both younger then, which just goes to show that they haven’t become any wiser as the years have passed.
Their scheduled route for this trek is from Newbridge Weir near Bishops Tawton, to Countess Wear in Exeter using secondary roads as much as possible. Their plan is to start on Monday 12th July with stopovers at Kings Nympton, Morchard Bishop and Sandford. As they are not in any particular hurry, there will no doubt be some interesting hostelries that will interrupt their progress on the way.
At present, they are looking at B&B stopovers at whatever point they reach at the end of each day, so may have to adjust the route somewhat, but expect to finish at the Port Royal on Exeter Quay on Thursday 15th.
If you happen to see them, give them a wave, better yet, sponsor them and the Festival by logging onto their Just Giving page.
