Bath Freemasons 'Square Meals' £25,000 initiative

Wednesday, 27 May 2020

As part of Somerset Freemasons’ on-going effort to combat the ill-effects of Covid-19 upon the health and welfare of the most vulnerable in the area, members in Bath have been operating a 'Square Meals' initiative

They have re-opened their kitchen to provide wholesome, pre-cooked frozen meals for delivery by Social Care staff to vulnerable citizens throughout Bath & North East Somerset, using the BANES Food Parcel Distribution Channel.

With funding and assistance provided by the Bath Masonic Hall Trust; Lodges and Orders based in Bath; The Somerset Provincial Grand Lodge and the generosity of the Masonic Charitable Foundation, the Freemasons' Charity, in ‘match-funding’ local efforts, the initiative has now raised over £24,500 with the aim of providing nearly 6,000 free two-course meals by the end of June.

Devised and prepared by Ben Hayward, the Bath Masonic Hall caterer, the Square Meals are based on Public Health England (PHE) nutrition advice and provide convenient nourishment for those who are struggling most. With well over a thousand already delivered across the area in the first few weeks, it is hoped that this scheme will go some way towards alleviating the difficulties experienced by those who are shielding, or have otherwise been left isolated by the ongoing pandemic.
