Name : Magnolia Lodge No. 53
Constitution : Grand Lodge Free And Accepted Masons (F.A.A.M.) of the District of Columbia
Description : Magnolia Lodge was founded to gather Kappa Alpha Freemasons in celebration of our shared traditions and legacy. Kappa Alpha Order is a college fraternity founded during the tenure of Gen. Robert E. Lee as president of Washington College (now Washington & Lee University) in Lexington, Virginia. KA owes much of its organization and customs to the Masonic experience of such fraternity founders and leaders as Samuel Zenas Ammen, James Ward Wood, and William Sprigg Hamilton. In like manner, generations of Kappa Alphas have played significant leadership roles in the Craft and Southern Freemasonry in particular. Our lodge was instituted as a living memorial to these brethren - inspired both by the example of Robert E. Lee and the teachings of this ancient fraternity. Formed as a traditional Craft lodge warranted by the Grand Lodge, F.A.A.M., of the District of Columbia, Magnolia gathers Kappa Alpha Masons throughout the United States. Brethren currently reside in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington City. Magnolia was chartered on December 21, 1996 - the traditional anniversary of Kappa Alpha Order's foundation in 1865.
Qualification : Magnolia Lodge receives petitions for affiliation from Master Masons, in good standing, who are active or alumnus members of Kappa Alpha Order. Petitions from without the metropolitan Washington, DC area are accepted, subject to consent of the petitioner's Grand Lodge, if required. If one is an active or alumnus, in good standing, of Kappa Alpha Order, and is not a Master Mason, he is invited to read our FAQ on the Masonic Fraternity on our website. Those interested in learning more about Magnolia Lodge or attending an upcoming event, please contact Brother Secretary.
