FREEMASONRY TODAY

Three Generations: L to r: David, Pat, Barry, George, Bobby, Ricky and Brian
On the Level
Three Generations
At the City of London Red Cross
Lodge, No. 3781, the candidate,
Bobby Coombes, was initiated by his
father Pat who is the current Master;
he was assisted by his brother David
as Senior Warden, his son Ricky as
Junior Warden, his father George as
Senior Deacon, his brother Barry as
Junior Deacon, and his brother Brian
as Inner Guard. His nephew Ben
should have been there to present
the working tools, but was prevented
by a traffic accident.
Cycling at 80
and senior Past Master of the Lodge
of Perception, No. 8492 in
Warwickshire, at the age of 70 had an
ambition to cycle 100 miles but he did
not like hills or traffic. He did it in 12
hours with Alan Craske, another Past
Master.
With Bill Kerley and Alan Craske in
support Gerry celebrated his 80th
birthday this year with an 80 mile
cycle ride. At the end Gerry still had
enough energy to collect £1,600 of
sponsorship money for his church
restoration fund at St Chads in
Lichfield. His ambition is to do 90
miles when he’s 90.
West Lancashire Scouts
The 2nd Kirkham Scouts practise canoe
skills on the local canal, but were being
forced to curtail their activity for want of
a new canoe trailer. Martin Hampson of
Kirkham Lodge, No. 6615 approached
the Community Fund of the Provincial
Grand Lodge of W. Lancs., who made a
grant to have a new trailer made.
Assistant Provincial Grand Master Leon
Tax said ‘It is good to see young people
learning new skills and trying
adventurous activities. The Scouts
deserve all the support they can get.’
Long Service and Good Conduct
One of the longest-serving Freemasons
in the country has celebrated the 75th
anniversary of his initiation. When
Vincent Walton celebrated his 70th
anniversary he invited all those present
to come to his 75th celebration. Now at
the age of 102, Vin is hoping for another
big reunion to celebrate his 80th
anniversary.
The Provincial Grand Master for the
Province of West Lancashire, Colin
Penty Wright had produced an
illuminated certificate to mark the
special anniversary and it was
presented to him at a meeting of
Birchwood Lodge, No. 8861 in
Warrington, together with an edition of
the Volume of the Sacred Law and a
masonic pocket watch.
