Cheshire Gift to Hospice

Hooton Park Lodge, No. 8156 in Cheshire have presented two motorised scooters to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd near Chester. The electrically powered scooters will enable some the less mobile patients access within the Hospice and to the surrounding gardens. The presentation was made on behalf of the members of the Lodge by Ken Jones, Charity Representative, and Gordon Norris, Almoner. This gift from the Lodge represents the long association of continuing support given by Ellesmere Port Freemasons to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Newbury Freemasons in the Community

Berkshire Masons use their ‘Freemasonry in the Community’ caravan to good effect, in the process encouraging young men to join the Craft. For the Royal Berkshire Show they made a trophy for the professional Pole Climbing competition, turned from 25-year old Yew in exact proportions to the real thing. The competition was won by the current World Champion Terry Bennett. Roger Gregory of the Thatcham Lodge, No. 8121, in Newbury put the idea into practice and five lodges and one chapter took part in the exercise. The trophy is on view in the Newbury Temple.

Hants Masons Provide Scanner

Two lodges in Hampshire have raised money to buy a ‘ClearReader’ device to enable visually impaired children to read. The device scans a book and then reads it aloud. David Jones, Head of Toynbee School, Chandlers Ford, recently received a cheque from Keith Rigden, a member of West Gate Lodge, No. 7387, and an old boy of the School. The lodges had raised £1,500 and a further £1,000 was added from a Provincial fund which tops up funds raised for charity.
