CHESHIRE SUPPORTS
REFUGE
Birkenhead masons have donated
£1,250 to help a women’s refuge in
Birkenhead. The Clifton Road Division
of lodges gave the money in support of
the Zero Centre in Birkenhead.
Julia Chambers from the Zero centre,
said ‘We are delighted and grateful for
the support of the masons of
Birkenhead. We are a voluntary
organisation and are dependent on the
goodwill of the local community.’
Keith Fair from the Clifton Road Division
of the Province, said ‘We are only too
pleased to help local causes, especially
such a worthwhile one as this.
CORNISH SUPPORT FOR
HOSPICE
Late last year John Enever, the Master of
St Anne’s Lodge, No.970 at Looe,
Cornwall had the privilege of presenting a
cheque for £1,000 to Ann Purdon, a
Liskeard member of the Friends of
Hospice South West. This took place at
their annual Carol Service to which Ann
had been invited. £215 had previously
been donated indirectly through the
sponsorship of the son of one of their
members, who had completed a
sponsored cycle ride from John O’Groats
to Lands End in aid of the charity. It is
hoped that the balance left over from
other lodge events will produce a further
£250. When their oldest member Henry
Somerton died aged 99, it was decided
with the family’s approval that a donation
would be given to the same charity in
lieu of flowers.
LODGES VENTURE ACROSS
THE CHANNEL
lodge where the meeting is conducted in
a different language, since Freemasonry
is universal, we should be able to follow
the ceremony - so it is said.
To test the water (or cross it), before
contacting other lodges abroad, the level
of interest has to be established. On the
weekend of May 14 - 16 an inclusive trip
to Ypres in Belgium is planned, just 55
miles from Calais, including a visit the
Cloth Hall located in the town square to
view the latest exhibits depicting scenes
from the 1914-1918 war.
Those interested in this or future
weekend visits abroad to other lodges
should call Jonothan Bowles on 01304
380244.
MASONIC CLOCK
The Lodge of Expatiation No. 9290 was
formed to expatiate on the mysteries
of the Craft. Derf Paton conceived the
idea of designing a masonic clock, to
be called ‘Time to Give’, in which the
clock symbolised the Temple, with the
officers in their respective positions
round the dial. By each of the numbers
on the dial is the badge of office of one
lodge officer, with the symbol of the
Great Architect at the centre. The aim
of producing these clocks was to assist
in raising money for masonic charities,
and to provide a useful symbolic tool in
any lodge.
The clock is available to order from the
Lodge of Expatiation No. 9290,
Bournemouth Masonic Centre, Knole
Road, Bournemouth, BH1 4DH.
